Leadership & Me
I had always viewed leadership as a position of inspiration and motivation. In the past, I had great mentors that not only took the time to share helpful advice that I would learn to use throughout my Hospitality Career but also my life. As a Food and Beverage Supervisor at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, I am faced with the challenge of adversity in the workplace; from employee relations to guest concerns. There hasn’t been a dull moment that didn’t challenge my leadership capabilities just yet. Along the way, I had met some amazing leaders, mentors and advisors that continue to help me with my own development in hospitality. I view leadership not only being able to have the confidence and competence to run an operation but also to bring, and develop those around you. I had also met those on the opposite side of the spectrum, where they created an unpleasant work environment but I can also learn from them on how not to behave when you are trying to achieve great results from your team.
This blog will tie in my personal experiences with leadership in hospitality as well as case studies and articles throughout this semester. I want to be able to tie in examples from leaders whom take great pride and have a passion for what they do. This blog will also tie in current events that pertain to any leadership examples I would like to highlight.
